Lil Wayne interrupts recording session as he accepts induction into Billboard Hip-Hop Hall of Fame


Lil Wayne remains a rap legend – and going strong.

The 40-year-old rapper on Tuesday left a recording session to accept an induction into Billboard Hip-Hop Hall of Fame at Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players at The Novo in Los Angeles.


The prolific musical artist, whose full name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., told the crowd at the event that he had interrupted the creative process to accept the honors.

‘Just another footnote, I ain’t stopping,’ the New Orleans native said. ‘They told me what time to be here; I was in the studio. 


He continued, ‘They told me when I could leave – I’ll be going back to the studio.’

The Lollipop artist spread his gratitude in delivering the acceptance speech, making thanks to his fans, inner circle and God.

‘Thank you, first of all – of course you know, gotta give thanks to the man up above,’ the Got Money performer said. ‘Also those that we lost, those that we wish were here. we thank you as well. 


‘And to my fans: I think I worded it the best way when I said, I ain’t s*** without you.’

He continued: ‘This is for y’all – y’all as in my fans, y’all as in the people in the crowd, my supporters, those that work with me, those that work for me, those that work around me, those that work like me – this is for us.’


The veteran rapper concluded his speech in saying, ‘Thank you, I love you all.’

He also expressed his thanks for Billboard Executive Director Gail Mitchell at the event, which was attended by musical stars such as Nas, Tinashe, Coi Leray and Ice Spice. 


The Grammy-winning artist, who recently appeared on the cover of Billboard magazine for the fourth time, was introduced by Mitchell as ‘a naturally, organically amazing, one of a kind, nothing can duplicate this motherf***er,’ according to the outlet. 

Lil Wayne has amassed impressive milestones in his decades in the music business, garnering 185 entries on the music outlet’s Hot 100 list, with 25 top 10 singles among them.

Lil Wayne has amassed impressive milestones in his decades in the music business, garnering 185 entries on the music outlet’s Hot 100 list

The prolific artist has been involved in three number one hits, including 2008’s Lollipop featuring Static Major; 2009’s Down with Jay Sean; and 2017’s I’m The One, a collaboration with DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo and Chance The Rapper.


He has been performing since the age of 12, getting his start with the group the Hot Boys, who released the album Guerrilla Warfare in July of 1999. His solo debut album came in November of 1999 with the record Tha Block Is Hot.

He’s since had number one albums with records such as The Carter II, The Carter III, The Carter IV and The Carter V.
